SOUTH BOSTON, VA (January 30, 2025) – After a highly successful 2024 season that produced 11 wins and a track championship, Landon Pembelton is turning his sights to South Boston Speedway in 2025.

Pembelton, the 2024 Dominion Raceway champion, is driving for Cluster Springs, Virginia-based R&S Race Cars this season, and will compete for the South Boston Speedway Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division title for the first time since the 2022 season. He started his trek on the 2025 season by testing a new car at South Boston Speedway.

“I tested their house car twice before, and was very pleased with it,” Pembelton remarked. “This is a brand-new car. It’s been very good. I’ve been very pleased with it.”

Pembelton is excited about working with Marcus Richmond and everyone at R&S Race Cars.

“I’m really looking forward to the season with these guys,” Pembelton pointed out. “I’ve really enjoyed having these last couple of testing sessions and building the relationship with Marcus Richmond and his guys. It’s going to be a lot of fun this year.”

Pembelton’s previous best finishes in the chase for the South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division title have been a pair of fifth-place efforts in 2021 and 2022. He has two career wins in Late Model Stock Car Division competition at South Boston Speedway.

The Amelia, Virginia resident is optimistic that he can improve both facets and feels he has as good a chance as anyone at winning the 2025 South Boston Speedway championship.

“It’s definitely achievable,” Pembelton said. “We need great consistency all season.”

Pembelton acknowledges that winning the 2025 South Boston Speedway championship is going to be a tough challenge.

“It’s going to be a war for sure,” he pointed out. “You’re going to have Peyton (Sellers) and (Kyle) Dudley, and numerous cars up here that are going to be very good. I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully we can come out on top.”

South Boston Speedway will open its 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, March 22 with the SMART Modified Tour’s King of the Modifieds event. That event will feature powerful 600-horsepower open-wheel tour-type Modifieds in a 125-lap race.

South Boston Speedway’s Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division will open its 2025 season that afternoon as well. Twin-50-lap races, each paying $2,500 to win will be the co-feature event of the day. Other series or divisions will be announced later.

Advance tickets for the season-opening March 22 SMART Modified Tour King of the Modifieds event are priced at $20. Tickets at the gate on race day will be $25 for those events.

Seniors ages 65 and older, military, healthcare workers, and students (with ID) can purchase tickets at the advance ticket price in advance and at the gate on the day of the event.

VIP Suite tickets for the March 22 SMART Modified Tour King of the Modifieds event are $45 each whether purchased in advance or at the gate on race day.
