SOUTH BOSTON, VA (August 13, 2024) – The 50-lap Kenny Meadows Limited Sportsman Memorial Feature Race that headlines the Sentara Health Race Night partnering with God’s Pit Crew event on Saturday night, August 17 at South Boston Speedway offers Eric Winslow an opportunity for redemption and a chance to reel in a big prize.

An opportunity to win South Boston Speedway’s season-opening Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division race, a 75-lap race paying $1,500-to-win, went by the board for Winslow when he and fellow competitor Nathan Crews made contact while battling for the lead with three laps to go in that race. Both spun, leaving Crews with a seventh-place finish and Winslow with an eighth-place finish.

“I really feel I gave the first race of the season away,” Winslow remarked. “We had the fastest car and ran Nathan Crews down. I got too impatient trying to get around him and ended up wrecking both of us. That’s been playing over in my head all year. I’m glad we’re going to have another shot at a big crown jewel race.”

A $3,000 winner’s prize is on the line in Saturday night’s Kenny Meadows Limited Sportsman Memorial Feature Race, the richest Limited Sportsman Division race in the history of the division at South Boston Speedway. Winslow would like nothing better than to capture the victory in the prestigious race.

“Money-wise it would be the biggest win of my career,” Winslow remarked. “I would love to win it for the prestige, the payout and all that goes with having a big race.”

In addition to casting his eyes on the money and additional prizes available in the race, the Pelham, North Carolina resident is also focused on South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division championship. Winslow trails defending division champion Jason Myers of Hurt, Virginia by just four points in the battle for the division title heading into the race, the next-to-last points race in South Boston Speedway’s 2024 points season.

“It’s a big race, and there is also a lot on the line for the championship,” Winslow pointed out. “There is a little bit of pressure, but I’m not worried about it. I’m getting to be in the must-win category with our championship hopes. The rain-out on August 3 really hurt us not having the chance to gain a couple of points on Jason (Myers).”

Winslow, who has two wins and seven Top-5 finishes in his nine starts at South Boston Speedway, is confident in his prospects for the last two races of the season.

“I’m pretty confident in what we’ve got to do the last couple of races and what we’ve got to do it with,” Winslow said. “We had a really good practice the last week we were at the track. We learned a lot. We’ve been behind the eight-ball the last couple of races. We found a few things wrong after going through the car.

“I really think we’re back on track,” Winslow added. “It takes whole lot for me to say that, but I think we’re back where we need to be.”

In addition to competing in the race, Winslow has assisted in bringing partners to the table to help make the race the big race that it is.

“I want the Limited guys to have a little bit of spotlight,” explained Winslow. “I just wanted to try help make a difference, make it a race that if you have a Limited Sportsman car, it would be worth pulling it out, coming to race and showing the fans we can put on a great race and show the Limited Sportsman Division can stand on its own feet.”

The 50-lap Kenny Meadows Limited Sportsman Memorial Feature Race for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division honors the late Kenny Meadows who passed away December 7, 2021 at age 56 due to COVID-19. Meadows was a life-long racing enthusiast who was crew chief for his son’s racing efforts and helped other teams throughout the years as well. It headlines the six-race card that comprises the Saturday, August 17 Sentara Health Race Night partnering with God’s Pit Crew event.

Also on Saturday night’s card are twin 75-lap races for the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division, a 25-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division, a 20-lap race for the Virginia State Police HEAT Hornets Division and a 25-lap race for the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club.
