AutosbyNelson CARS 250 Moore Wins Race, McCarty Wins Title

SOUTH BOSTON, VA…..It was this time last year when Summerfield, North Carolina resident Bobby McCarty made his first start in the CARS Response Energy Tour Late Model Stock Car Division.

Saturday night McCarty was crowned as the CARS Response Energy Tour Late Model Stock Car Division Champion in the 250 at South Boston Speedway.

Craig Moore won the 125-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race, but McCarty, with a ninth-place finish emerged with the championship, edging four-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion Lee Pulliam of Alton, Virginia for the championship.

Pulliam trailed McCarty by 20 points entering Saturday’s race and needed McCarty to have a disaster in the race in order to have a shot at the championship. The former NASCAR national champion finished third in the race.

Trinity, NC resident Jared Fryar emerged with the championship in the CARS Response Energy Tour Super Late Model Division. Canadian Raphael Lessard, the tour’s 2015 Super Late Model champion, trailed Fryar by just eight points, but did not enter the event, leaving the door open for Fryar to win the championship by taking the green flag to start the race.

Corey Heim won the 125-lap Super Late Model race that opened Saturday’s 250, edging Anthony Cataldi for the win.
