Twin 75-lap Late Model races scheduled Saturday night, June 28 at South Boston
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval at South Boston Speedway will sit silent this weekend; however, exciting NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action will crank back up on Saturday, June 28.
America’s Hometown Track will host the Whelen Night NASCAR Late Model Twin 75s racing program on Saturday, June 28, beginning at 7 p.m. The event will feature five action-packed races.
The featured attraction of the evening will be a pair of 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Peyton Sellers, a former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, continues to sit atop the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings at South Boston Speedway.
Matt Bowling, a former South Boston Speedway track champion, is second in the standings. He is 19 points ahead of third-place Austin Thaxton. Bobby McCarty is fourth in the standings. He is 21 points behind Thaxton and 28 ahead of fifth-place Bruce Anderson.
Also scheduled on June 28 will be races for the competitors in the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the touring Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.
Trey Crews sits atop the Limited Sportsman Division standings. He is 12 points ahead of second-place J.D. Eversole.
Tommy Peregoy owns the third-place spot in the Limited Sportsman Division standings. He is 10 points behind Peregoy and only five points ahead of fourth-place Danny Willis Jr., who is the division’s defending champion. Daryn Cockram is in fifth place in the standings and only trails Willis by one point.
In the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings, Greg Autry owns a nine-point lead in the chase for the 2014 championship over second-place Bruce Mayo.
Harrison Walker is in third place in the standings. He is 17 points behind Mayo and four points ahead of fourth-place Johnny Layne. Jimmy Wade occupies the fifth spot in the standings. He is six points behind Layne.
Pit gates will open on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying time trials will roll off at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open 5 p.m.
Adult admission is $10 with kids ages six and under admitted free.
