South Boston Speedway offering the perfect outing for Dads during Father’s Day weekend

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. – Father’s Day is Sunday and America’s Hometown Track is serving up the ideal gift for all Dads Saturday night.

South Boston Speedway will return to action this weekend with the running of the NASCAR Whelen Night Late Model 150 racing program. The night of action-packed NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action will get cranked up at 7 p.m. and will feature four events on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

All Dads will be admitted for the special reduced price of $5 for the Saturday racing action in honor of Father’s Day, which is Sunday.

The featured attraction of Saturday night’s racing action will be a 150-lap shootout for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam, who is the current leader in the chase for the 2013 national championship, is atop the title standings in the quest for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car championship at South Boston Speedway.

Pulliam, who has posted 12 overall victories in 2013, has collected eight wins at America’s Hometown Track in racing out to a comfortable lead in his bid to win this year’s track championship.

Bobby McCarty owns the second-place position in the standings. He is 38 points ahead Dustin Storm. There is currently a tie for fourth place in the standings between former multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris and Austin Thaxton are currently deadlocked in fourth place in the title standings.

Also schedules as part of the NASCAR Whelen Night Late Model 150 racing program on Saturday will be a pair of battles for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division ranks and clash for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division,

Danny Willis Jr. has sped out to a comfortable lead in the Limited Sportsman Division standings, but will need a solid night in the twin races to maintain his cushion over second-place Garrett Bunch in the standings.

Lurking in third place, just eight points behind Bunch is Michael Maresca. Blake Stallings is in fourth place in the Limited Sportsman Division. He is 10 points behind Maresca, and only one point ahead of fifth-place Tommy Peregoy.

There are a host of drivers in striking range to claim the 2013 Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship at South Boston Speedway.

Joe Allred III is currently in first place; however, he only leads second-place Stuart Crews by four points. Nathan Crews, who claimed two wins in his last outing at South Boston Speedway, is third in the standings. He is just one point out of second place and only one point ahead of fourth-place Austin Milam. Randy Hupp rounds out the top five; however he is just two points behind Milam and eight behind division-leading Allred.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open Saturday at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials to set the starting lineups for the night of racing will get cranked up at 5:30 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.
