SoBo’s 2012 track champions will be honored at Champions Dinner & Awards Ceremony Saturday

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will honor its 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series division champions on Saturday at the annual Champions Dinner & Awards Ceremony.

Matthew Bowling, a one-time winner in 2012, claimed the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division championship by 18 points over former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers, who collected three triumphs in 2012.

In addition to scoring one victory on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval in 2012, Bowling also finished second in two events. Bowling also motored to six third place finishes during his championship campaign and finished no worse than eighth place in his 19 starts in 2012 at America’s Hometown Track.

Bowling is the youngest competitor to win the NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car Division championship at South Boston Speedway.

Bobby McCarty, a seven-time winner in 2012, secured the Limited Sportsman Division championship. McCarty owned a 21-point advantage over six-time winner Danny Willis Jr. in the final point standings for the season.

Trey Crews, who tallied four wins in 2012, secured the title in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Crews finished the season with a 39-point lead over Joe Allred, III, who posted seven victories during the campaign.

The March 2 practice session will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is open to all divisions.
