Plans are already being made for another banner season at South Boston Speedway in 2013

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The curtain has closed on another banner season of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action at South Boston Speedway.

While the 2012 season has ended, plans are already in the works for another year of NASCAR racing action at America’s Hometown Track next season.

South Boston Speedway officials are working feverishly on the 2013 NASCAR Whelen All American Series schedule and will be releasing that information soon on the track’s website at

When the schedule for the upcoming year is released competitors will begin making plans to either repeat as champions at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval or to attempt to dethrone the 2012 champions.

The 2012 champions at America’s Hometown Track included Matthew Bowling (NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division); Bobby McCarty (Limited Sportsman Division); Trey Crews (Budweiser Pure Stock Division) and Hunter Slayton (MAD Modified Division).

Bowling claimed the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship by 18 points over former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers.

The one-time winner finished no worse than eighth in his 20 starts at South Boston Speedway in 2012. He finished second twice this past season and was third six different times.

McCarty, a seven-time winner in 2012, owned a 21-point advantage over six-time winner Danny Willis Jr. in the final point standings for the season.

Crews tallied four wins during the season and won the Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship by 39 points over Joe Allred III, who motored his way to Victory Lane seven times in 2012.
