Champions for the 2012 season crowned last weekend at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway crowned its 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series division champions last weekend during the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Late Model 150 racing program.

Matthew Bowling rolled to a third-place finish in the 150-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Division race, the featured event of the night, to lock up the 2012 championship.

The third-place finish was the sixth of the season for Bowling, a one-time winner during the campaign. Bowling also had two runner-up finishes this season and finished no worse than eighth in his 20 starts on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Bowling claimed the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship by 18 points over former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers.

Sellers motored to his third victory of the season last weekend, but came up just short in his bid for another South Boston Speedway track championship.

Bobby McCarty, a seven-time winner in 2012, secured the Limited Sportsman Division championship by motoring to a third-place finish in the division’s 50-lap season finale last weekend.

McCarty owned a 21-point advantage over six-time winner Danny Willis Jr. in the final point standings for the season. Willis was the runner-up in the final race of the campaign last weekend.

A second-place performance last weekend in the final Budweiser Pure Stock Division race of the campaign earned Trey Crews a division championship.

Crews tallied four wins during the season and won the division championship by 39 points over Joe Allred III, who motored his way to Victory Lane seven times in 2012. Allred notched his seventh win of the season during Saturday night’s season finale.
