Track titles on the line Saturday, Sept. 15 when SoBo hosts the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Late Model 150

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Believe it or not, the 2012 racing season at South Boston Speedway is winding to a close.

The division champions at America’s Hometown Track will be crowned on Saturday, Sept. 15, when South Boston Speedway hosts the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Late Model 150 racing program. The first of four events scheduled on Sept. 15 will get underway at 7 p.m.

Highlighting the night of racing will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. Also scheduled on Sept. 15 is a race for the Limited Sportsman Division, a clash for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and an event for the competitors in the touring Legendary Flathead Ford Racing Association.

One-time winner Matthew Bowling heads into the final NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division with a 27-point lead over two-time winner Peyton Sellers.

Bowling has placed no worse than eighth in his 19 starts at South Boston Speedway this season. He finished sixth two weeks ago, while Sellers, a former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, placed fourth.

Bowling has finished second twice this season, third five times, fourth on four occasions and fifth once.

Seven-time winner Bobby McCarty heads into the final Limited Sportsman Division race of the season with a 23-point lead over Danny Willis Jr., who has been to Victory Lane six times in 2012.

Trey Crews owns a comfortable 46-point lead over Joe Allred III heading into the final Budweiser Pure Stock Division battle of the campaign.

Pit registration for the GCR presents Spaulding Equipment Late Model 150 racing program will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 15. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.
