Twin Late Model events, appearance by Glen Wood to highlight racing action Saturday night at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will be featured in a pair of 75-lap races Saturday night when the green flag waves for the start of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Night Late Model Twin 75s racing program at South Boston Speedway.

A total of six races are planned Saturday evening and the evening will be highlighted by a guest appearance by legendary NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Glen Wood, who will serve as the Grand Marshal for the night.

Also scheduled as part of Saturday’s racing action will be a race for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division, twin battles for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and an event for the touring Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.

The chase for the 2012 championship in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will continue Saturday night and one-time winner Matthew Bowling will begin the race night as the leader in the points chase.

Two-time winner Peyton Sellers is second in the championship chase. Hard-charging Lee Pulliam, who has now reeled off five victories this season at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval is third in the standings and is only nine points behind Sellers.

Danny Willis, Jr. and Bobby McCarty continue to be in the midst of a fierce battle for first place in the Limited Sportsman Division standings. Willis is in first place, but is only two points ahead of McCarty. Mike Jones is third in the standings. He is only one point ahead of fourth-place Blake Stallings.

Joe Allred, III is in first place in the battle for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship. Allred owns a slim eight-point lead over Trey Crews, while Randy Hupp is third and is only 17 points out of second place.

Pit registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
