SoBo to host PASS Super Late Models & NASCAR Whelen Late Models in racing action Saturday

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — An action-packed night of racing is slated Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

America’s Hometown Track will host the touring PASS Super Late Models in a 150-lap shootout. Also sharing the limelight Saturday night will be the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors in a pair of 75-lap shootouts.

The first race of the evening will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Rounding out the night of racing will be an event for the MAD (Modified Affordable Division) Modifieds.

Prior to the evening of racing on the four-tenths mil asphalt oval, fans will be able to go trackside to meet their favorite competitors during a Fan Appreciation Session, which will begin at 5:45 p.m.

When the engines roar to life for the start of the 150-lap PASS Super Late Model event, Kyle Grissom, who is coming off a victory at Concord (N.C.) Speedway, will own the lead in the chase for the 2012 series championship.

Brandon Ward, who won earlier this season at Wake County (N.C.) Speedway, remains in striking range of the lead in the title chase as well.

One-time winner Ross Kenseth, son of 2012 Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth, is third in the standings and is followed in the fourth position by Jay Fogleman.

The PASS Super Late Model Series is also scheduled to visit South Boston Speedway this season on Aug. 18.

Peyton Sellers, a former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, is just five points out of the lead in his bid for another track title in 2012 after winning a pair of 75-lap races two weeks ago.

Sellers trails one-time winner Matthew Bowling in the current NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings at America’s Hometown Track.

Advance tickets for the Saturday’s event are currently on sale and priced at $10 each. Advance tickets can be purchased through 5 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the speedway office.

Tickets on race day will be priced at $15 each. Youth will be admitted for $5 and children 6 and under will be free with a paying adult.

Practice will be held from 2 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed at 5:45 p.m. by a Fan Appreciation Session trackside.
