Short track racing "Powers" will battle at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, May 26

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The region's best motorsports "Powers" will be in action on Saturday, May 26, when South Boston Speedway returns to action for the running of the Halifax County "Powers" Business Late Model Twin 75s racing program.

A total of six action-packed events will be waged on the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval with the first race of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series program getting the green flag at 7 p.m.

The featured attractions of the night will be a pair of 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Lee Pulliam has collected victories in the last two Late Model Stock Car Division events; however, the division's point lead currently belongs to one-time winner Matthew Bowling.

Former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers is second in the points and is followed in the top five by Dennis Holdren in third, Tommy Peregoy in fourth and Bruce Anderson in fifth.

The competitors in the Limited Sportsman Division will also be in action in twin races Saturday night.

Danny Willis Jr. has jumped out to a 14-point lead over second-place Bobby McCarty in the chase for the division championship after reeling off victories in the last three events.

Rounding out the night of racing action on May 26 will be events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the drivers in the touring MAD (Modified Affordable Division) Modifieds.

Joe Allred, III leads Trey Crews by 20 points in the battle for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division crown. Stuart Crews is third in the standings and is only six points out of second place.

Pit registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. on May 26. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
