NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 will kickoff South Boston Speedway's 2012 racing season
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The curtain has closed on another banner season of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action at South Boston Speedway, but plans are already in place for another exciting season of racing at America's Hometown Track in 2012.
South Boston Speedway officials released their 2012 racing schedule last weekend and it includes 17-action packed events, beginning with the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 on Saturday, March 10.
Traditionally, the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 has closed out the season at South Boston Speedway, but the decision was made to move the event to the start of the campaign in 2012.
"We believe it will have almost a short track version of a Daytona 500 appeal and atmosphere," South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said of the decision to schedule the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 at the start of the 2012 season. "All of the competitors will be eager to start back racing and it will provide them and our loyal fans a great start to the season.
"Currently, there are so many 'big' races scheduled throughout the region at the end of the season," Rice said. "We wanted to provide our fans and competitors with a 'big' event at the start of the season."
In addition to NASCAR Whelen All American Series events for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division and Budweiser Pure Stock Division, a host of special events are, once again, planned in 2012.
South Boston Speedway will host the touring PASS Super Late Model Series for three events in 2012. Those events are scheduled on March 24, June 9, and Aug. 18. All three of those events will also feature twin races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
The annual 200-lap FindItHere.com NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car race and the annual Fireworks Extravaganza will be held on Tuesday, July 3. That event will also feature a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will visit the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Saturday, April 14. That event will also feature twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
South Boston Speedway officials also announced plans to have a return visit of the popular Monster Truck Show in 2012. A date for that event will be released later.
The dates for NASCAR Whelen All American Series action at South Boston Speedway for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division and Budweiser Pure Stock Division include April 7, May 5, May 12, May 26, June 16, July 14, July 21, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
Season tickets for the upcoming year of racing are currently on sale and priced at only $150.
