Basket full of Easter weekend racing action offered Saturday at SoBo

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The Easter weekend is upon us and South Boston Speedway is offering a basket full of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action Saturday night.

America's Hometown Track will host the USG Late Model 150 NASCAR Whelen All American race program Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m.

Prior to the racing action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval, children in attendance will have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny and take part in an Easter Egg Hunt at 6:00 p.m. behind the grandstands in Turn 1.

The five-race program will be highlighted by a 150-lap battle for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Other races featured as part of Saturday's racing action include events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Southern Vintage Modifieds and a special appearance by the IMCA Style Modifieds.

Multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris has staked his claim to the 2011 championship at South Boston Speedway. Morris, coming off a pair of victories in twin races earlier this month, has vaulted to the top of the division standings.

The list of drivers in pursuit of him, however, is quite daunting. Josh Oakley is second in the standings and others very much within striking distance include perennial power Frank Deiny Jr. and two-time defending South Boston Speedway champion Justin Johnson.

Defending champion Justin Snow continues to lead the Limited Sportsman Division standings, but Brian Pembelton is only a mere three points back in second place. Danny Willis is in third and only trails the leader by seven points.

Bill Edwards owns a 16-point edge over Joe Allred in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. Daniel Crews is third, just one point behind Allred and three ahead of fourth-place Randy Hupp.

Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
