NASCAR Whelen All American Late Models set for twin 75's
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models will invade South Boston Speedway Saturday for the running of the PASS Super Late Model 150 racing program.
Also featured on the four-event program are twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors and action for the touring Rolling Thunder Modified Series. The first of the four races will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
The PASS Super Late Models will battle it out on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval for 150 green flag laps of racing. Caution laps will not count in the event.
Preston Peltier enters Saturday's event at South Boston as the points leader in the chase for the 2010 PASS South championship. There are only four races remaining in the 2010 campaign and Peltier has been in the lead since early this spring.
Ryan Blaney is only 18 points behind Peltier and Andy Loden is only 20 points behind in the third-place position.
Justin Johnson will also be looking to hold onto a points lead he has held for much of the season when the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Cars hit the asphalt Saturday night for their twin 75-lap races.
Johnson, the division's defending champion, has scored nine wins in 2010 and owns a 110-point advantage over Stacy Puryear with just three point races remaining in the 2010 campaign. Johnson could clinch his second straight championship Saturday night.
Puryear is 28 points ahead of third-place Lee Pulliam, while Deac McCaskill is fourth and trails Pulliam by 10 points. David Latour rounds out the top five competitors in the championship chase. He is 15 points behind McCaskill.
Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and a pre-race Fan Appreciation Session will be held trackside for fans to meet and greet their favorite competitors.
The rain date for the PASS Super Late Model 150 will be Sunday, Aug. 29.
Advance tickets for Saturday's racing action are on sale and priced at only $10 through 5 p.m. Friday. Tickets on the day of the race will be priced at $15 for adults. Youth ages 7-12 will be admitted for $10. Kids ages six and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
