Crucial twin races for Limited Sportsman Division among highlights Saturday at SoBo
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — While many eyes will be focused on the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competition this weekend at South Boston Speedway, there will also be loads of interest in twin races for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division.
South Boston Speedway will return to action on Saturday, Aug. 14, for the running of the Sunoco presents Anderson Lawn Care Night 150. A total of six races are scheduled Saturday night, with the first event set to get the green flag at 7 p.m.
Highlighting the night of racing action will be a 150-lap shootout for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, along with a pair of 50-lap events for the Limited Sportsman Division.
The two races in the Limited Sportsman Division are crucial in the battle for the 2010 division championship. Following the twin events Saturday night, there is only one other Limited Sportsman event remaining in the championship chase. That event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4. Drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will have three more point races left in the 2010 title chase following Saturday night's action.
Justin Snow is the current points leader in the Limited Sportsman Division; however, his lead is only a mere four points over Tommy Peregoy. Danny Willis Jr. is third in the standings.
In the battle for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, defending champion Justin Johnson owns a fairly comfortable 95-point cushion over second place Stacy Puryear. Johnson has visited Victory Lane eight times in 2010 at South Boston Speedway.
There continues to be a scramble for the second place position in the Late Model Stock Car standings. Puryear is currently 10 points ahead of third-place Deac McCaskill and 18 points ahead of fourth-place Lee Pulliam, who is perhaps the hottest driver currently with wins in two of the past three Late Model Stock Car races.
Other events planned Saturday night include a race for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and twin races for the competitors in the Southern Vintage Modified Division.
Jarrett Milam leads the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings, but is only nine points in front of Joe Allred. Darryl Lacks currently sits first in the Southern Vintage Modifieds standings.
The rain date for the Sunoco presents Anderson Lawn Care Night 150 will be Sunday, Aug. 15.
Pit registration will begin at noon on Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youths ages 7-12. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
