South Boston Speedway's Open Practice and Media Day is just over one week away

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — In just over one week, the familiar roar of race engines will be heard at South Boston Speedway.

As the season-opening event on March 13 closes in, South Boston Speedway officials have announced plans for the annual Open Practice and Media Day at the famed four-tenths mile asphalt oval. The Open Practice and Media Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, weather permitting.

"We are certainly hoping that we will have a day of sunshine and nice temperatures next Saturday," South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. "We are all very excited about the 2010 season here and we know our competitors are eager to come to the track and get in some practice before the season begins."

Next week's open practice session will be a daylong event and will be open to the general public. Grandstand gates will be open for the session and no admission will be charged.

Registration for the open practice will begin at 9 a.m. and practice sessions for all of the racing divisions at America's Hometown Track will be held from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. A lunch break has been slated from noon until 1 p.m.

Following next week's open practice session, drivers and crews will set their sights on Saturday, March 13, when South Boston Speedway will open the 2010 season with a special afternoon starting time.

The first event of the campaign will feature racing action in all of South Boston Speedway's regular divisions. Highlighting the afternoon of racing on March 13 will be twin races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Also slated on March 13 are races for the NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the NASCAR Southern Vintage Modifieds.

Season tickets for the 19 events on the 2010 schedule at South Boston Speedway are currently on sale for only $150. Tickets can be purchased at the speedway office.
