SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — With the start of the 2009 racing season at South Boston Speedway less than a month away, many drivers and teams are making their last-minute preparations in hopes of chasing a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series title at the famed four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

The first of 20 races on the 2009 South Boston Speedway schedule will be run on Saturday, March 14. One week prior to that, competitors in all of the track's divisions will have an opportunity to hit the oval for an open practice session on Saturday, March 7.

The open practice will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Pit gates will open on March 7 at 9 a.m. The public is invited to watch the practice from the grandstands free of charge.

Season tickets good for all 20 events at South Boston Speedway this season are currently on sale and priced at $175.

In addition to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events for the Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, and the Southern Vintage Modified Division, a host of other special events are also planned in 2009.

USARacing, formerly known as the Hooters Pro Cup Series, announced that it would stage races at America's Hometown Track on Aug. 8 and also on Oct. 31. The second event will be the final of four in the USARacing's championship series.

South Boston Speedway will host the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modifieds on April 4. The NASCAR Camping World Series will make a return trip to America's Hometown Track on May 30, and the Bailey's 200, along with the annual Fireworks Extravaganza, will be held on July 3. Rounding out the 2009 season will be the Mason Dixon 500, which will once again feature 250 laps of action for the NASCAR Late Model Stock Cars and 250 laps of action for the PASS Super Late Models.

Speedway officials are still accepting applications for 2009 Miss South Boston Speedway.
