South Boston Speedway announces action-packed 2009 season schedule

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — March 14. Mark the date down. Sure, it's four months away, but let the countdown begin now.

March 14 is the date that South Boston Speedway will open its 52nd season of action-packed racing action. Highlighting the 18-race schedule will be numerous NASCAR Whelen All American Series events for the featured divisions at America's Hometown Track — the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, and the Southern Vintage Modifieds.

The 2009 schedule also includes events for NASCAR touring series and other fan-favorite attractions.

"We are still celebrating another outstanding season here at South Boston Speedway in 2008, yet we are already looking forward to another great season in 2009," South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. "There is always a lot of anticipation as we await the start of another new season of racing. We are excited for our talented competitors and for our loyal fans who support us each and every year."

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Series will invade the four-tenths mile asphalt oval on April 4. May 30 will bring a return visit to South Boston Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Series.

On July 3, South Boston Speedway will, once again, host the Bailey's 200 Late Model Stock Car race, along with a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division, a 50-lap race for the Pure Stock Division competitors and the annual Fireworks Extravaganza.

Rounding out the 2009 season will be the Mason Dixon 500 on Oct. 17. That event will feature a 250-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race and a 250-lap shootout for the competitors in the PASS Super Late Model Series.

Gift certificates good for use during the 2009 racing season at America's Hometown Track are available in any amount and can be purchased at the speedway office, as well as season passes for next year are currently available at the speedway.
