Ticket stubs from rain-plagued Hooters ProCup event at SoBo good for $5 discount on August's return visit

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Mother Nature dealt South Boston Speedway and the touring USAR Hooters ProCup Series a wicked hand Saturday evening.

On two occasions Saturday evening, rains pelted down on America's Hometown Track forcing the red flag to fly during the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Miller Lite 250. The second episode of rain, which came on the heels of an earlier two-hour rain-delay, forced the race to be stopped after 160 of the originally-scheduled 250 laps around the four-tenths mile asphalt oval had been completed.

South Boston Speedway officials and USAR Hooters ProCup Series officials worked feverishly throughout the night to get the track race-ready, however, Mother Nature wound up winning the battle.

"Every effort possible was made to dry the track and complete the event in a timely manner," a disappointed South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said Monday. "Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with us. I just want to apologize to everyone. I was just as disappointed as everyone else.

"I am so thankful to the fans for all of their patience and to the fine South Boston Speedway staff and USAR Hooters ProCup officials for making every effort possible to attempt to keep the track dry and keep the racing going," Rice added. "Their efforts should be applauded."

Rice went on to announce that the fans in attendance at Saturday's event should hold on to their ticket stubs and use them for a $5 discount off the admission price for the next visit to South Boston Speedway by the USAR Hooters ProCup Series on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The discount, Rice added, will be good for tickets purchased in advance of the event or those purchased on the actual day of the race.

"We were so disappointed for our fans who waited so patiently and so long to see the completion of Saturday's race," Rice said. "This is a small way for us to try and apologize to them for their inconvenience and also to encourage them to come back to South Boston Speedway for the next USAR Hooters ProCup Series race in August."
