South Boston Speedway's 51st season will get cranked up Saturday afternoon with running of Easter Bunny 150

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will begin its second half-century of racing action Saturday afternoon, March 22, with the running of the Easter Bunny 150.

After celebrating its 50th anniversary season last year, America's Hometown Track is ready to drop the green flag on its 51st season with a special 2 p.m. starting time Saturday for NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action.

Some of the top drivers in the region are expected to be on hand for racing action. In addition, nearly perfect weather conditions are forecast for the day. The National Weather Service is predicting partly sunny skies Saturday with highs reaching close to the 70-degree mark.

"South Boston Speedway is always known for its great racing action," General Manager Cathy Rice said. "Enthusiasm is high for the opening of another season and the weather forecast looks nearly perfect for us. It promises to be a great day of racing to start the new season."

A total of five races are on tap for the Easter Bunny 150. Highlighting the day of racing action will be a 150-lap event for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. Other races scheduled include events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division and the INEX Legends Series.

The Easter Bunny will also be on hand Saturday at America's Hometown Track and will take part in an Easter Egg Hunt with children at 1 p.m.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 9 a.m. with practice for all divisions beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing through noon. Grandstand gates will open at noon and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 12:45 p.m., shortly after a mandatory driver's meeting at 12:15 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $10 for adults. Youth, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 and must be accompanied by a paying adult, children, ages six and under, will be admitted free.
