South Boston Speedway Idle This Week; Action Resumes September 1 With The GCR 150

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. - With its 50th Anniversary reunion and celebration having taken place, South Boston Speedway is taking a one-week break before resuming NASCAR racing action at the storied .4-mile oval. The final segment of South Boston Speedway's points season starts counting down on Saturday night, September 1, with the GCR 150.

The September 1 GCR 150 racing program will be a four-race event highlighted by a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division. Also scheduled that night are races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the regional touring Southern Vintage Modified Racing Series. That event will be the first of three points events remaining in the track's 2007 points season. With the season rapidly heading toward its conclusion, a number of drivers will be striving to finish as well as they can in hopes of landing a spot in the upper echelon of the various track division points standings. South Boston Speedway's final two points events of the season are slated for September 15 and September 22.

The GCR 150 race day schedule on Saturday, September 1 calls for practice from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m., qualifying time trials start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race starts at 7 p.m. South Boston Speedway's Early Bird Special admission of $8 for adults will be in effect until 6:30 p.m. with admission being $10 after that. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5. Kids ages nine and under will be admitted free.

Adam Barker of Hurt, Va., who leads the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division points standings, will be looking to close out the season on a high note. Barker, who has 10 wins in the division this season, leads Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. by 68 points entering the September 1 event. Limited Sportsman Division points leader Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. is in a similar situation. The defending division champion also has 10 wins under his belt and leads Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. by 60 points entering the upcoming event. Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. continues to hold the top spot in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. He holds a 28-point edge over Mark Francisco of Halifax, Va. heading into the GCR 150 racing program. The track's closest points race is in the Southern Vintage Modified Division where Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C, leads Randy Smith of Bassett, Va. by a slim two-point margin entering what will be the next-to-last race of the season for that division.
