GCR presents SunTrust 150 is slated for Saturday night
The remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto are expected to be long gone by Saturday evening in plenty of time for South Boston Speedway to host the GCR presents SunTrust 150.
The first race of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing program will begin at 7 p.m. The featured attraction of the evening will be a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.
Drew Herring of Benson, N.C., who has claimed eight victories this season at America's Hometown Track, leads a hotly contested battle for the Late Model Stock Car championship. Herring is 18 points ahead of his closest challengers.
Jonathan Cash and Owen Miller are tied for second place in the Late Model Stock point standings, while fourth place Eddie Johnson sits just 14 points behind the second place tie.
The Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division will also be in action Saturday night in a 50-lap race.
Also seeing action Saturday night will be the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the competitors in the touring Aaron's Pro Challenge Series.
Pit gates will open Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:15 p.m.
Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
