Gordon can clinch Northern Division title at South Boston

Myrtle Beach, SC - After finishing outside the top-three in a Northern Division race for the first time all season last week, Benny Gordon will look to begin another streak Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

Gordon, who has led the Northern Division points standings every week but one this season, can clinch the division title for the third year in a row by just taking the green flag for the Naturally Fresh 250 Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

Gordon enters this weekend with a 250-point lead over Jeff Agnew and will enter the Championship Series as the top seed from the North when the six-race shootout begins September 15 at the new Iowa Speedway.

While Gordon can relax, Agnew will try to make it two wins in a row this weekend. Agnew won last weekend at Salem to build his lead over Woody Howard to 79 points (1,331-1252) but Howard enters this weekend with two straight top-three finishes and would love to get back to victory lane at his home track in the series.

"We had a really good run at Salem and are ready to go back to South Boston," said Howard. "We seem to always run well there and that would be a good place for us to get a win before the Championship Series."

Jack Bailey trails Howard by just 11 points (1,252-1,241) in fourth place while Johnny Rumley's mechanical problems at Salem last week enabled Bailey to build a 33-point (1,241-1,2208) lead on the veteran with two races remaining in the regular season.

In the battle for the Northern Division Miller Lite Rookie of the Year award Derek Kale enjoys a 78-point lead over Cameron Dodson with two races to go and just needs to finish within seven positions of Dodson and third-place rookie driver Dominick Casola in the final two races to win the $10,000 prize.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. and qualifying for the Naturally Fresh 250 will begin at 4:30 p.m. An on-track autograph session will
begin at 5:45 p.m. with the green flag set to fly at 7 p.m. The South Boston Speedway local late models will also compete in a 110-lap event immediately after the Naturally Fresh 250. For more information, please contact the speedway at 434-572-4947.
