Action-packed Saturday afternoon racing slated Oct. 1 at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The chase for track titles may have come to a close, but the action is far from over at South Boston Speedway.

America's Hometown Track will return to action Saturday, Oct. 1 for the running of the Emergency Services Day race program. The event will feature a special 3 p.m. afternoon starting time.

A trio of action-packed races are slated to get the green flag Saturday afternoon. Some of the top Limited Sportsman Division drivers from across the region are expected to be on hand for a 200-lap shootout.

The Super Trucks will also be on hand Saturday at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval for a 100-lap clash, while a host of Pure Stock Division drivers are slated to hit the track for a 75-lap race.

All emergency services personnel will receive $5 off gate admission Saturday afternoon by presenting a valid identification card. The discount applies to police officers, firemen, emergency medical technicians, etc.

Grandstand gates will open Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 1:30 p.m.

Adult general admission tickets are available at the speedway office through Friday, Sept. 30 for a discounted price of $10. Adult general admission on the day of the race will be $15. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $10 and children, ages nine and under, will be admitted free with a paid adult.

South Boston Speedway is still collecting donations for the hurricane victims of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi through God's Pit Crew. Donations will be accepted at the speedway office 9 .m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and also on race days slated for Saturday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Nov. 12.

Items most needed included: toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby needs such as diapers, formula, etc., toilet paper, canned food and other non-perishable items.

Monetary donations are also being accepted and are tax deductible. Checks can be made payable to God's Pit Crew.
