Students can watch racing action at South Boston Speedway for only $5 Saturday night
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The time is nearing for kids to head back to school. Before the bell rings to begin a new school term, however, South Boston Speedway wants to treat the students.
America's Hometown Track will host the Dodge presents Back to School Night race program Saturday, Aug. 13. All students with ID's will be admitted for $5 throughout the evening. The first race of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
Racing action for the competitors in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will highlight Saturday's event. Nine-time winner Peyton Sellers leads the way in the chase for the track championship. Sellers, who is also contending for titles in the NASCAR Division I and national championship picture, has reeled off two consecutive victories at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.
Drew Herring is second in the Late Model standings and is followed by a third-place tie between Jonathan Cash and Owen Miller, while Ryan Rhodes rounds out the top five in the chase for the crown.
Those drivers and many other top competitors are expected to be on hand for Saturday's racing action. Other drivers that have visited Victory Lane this year and who are expected to compete Saturday include Scott Worley, Wayne Ramsey, Deac McCaskill and Justin Johnson.
Drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division and the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stock Division are also slated to hit the asphalt Saturday night for racing action.
Justin Snow is atop the point standings in the Limited Sportsman ranks. Jonathan Bailey is second and is followed in the top five by Tommy Peregoy, Charles Barnes and Brian Pembleton.
Nick Igdalsky leads the highly competitive point standings in the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stock Division. Igdalsky is six points ahead of second-place Lee Anderson. Joey Throckmorton is third in the standings, just four points behind Anderson. Rodney Pennington is fourth in the title chase for the division, while Chuck Watkins is fifth.
Rounding out the Dodge presents Back to School Night race program will be action for the touring INEX Legends Series as well as the Southern Vintage Modified competitors.
Pit gates will open Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get the green flag at 5 p.m. as well.
Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
