Tailgating spaces available at South Boston Speedway for 2005 season

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Trackside parking. Wheel-to-wheel racing action just a few feet away from you. Burgers on the grill. Your favorite beverages iced down in a cooler right beside you as you sit in your comfortable lawn chair alongside your closest friends. Can it get much better than that?

South Boston Speedway fans asked for it and track officials delivered.

Tailgating spots along the backstretch at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval are available for the 2005 racing season at South Boston Speedway. Spaces are available for the entire season or on a weekly basis.

"We had many fans ask about tailgating at the speedway and we have created a way for the fans to do just that," South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice said. "The tailgating area will open early each race day so people with spaces in that area can enjoy practice, qualifying and the night of racing."

The tailgating area will be open for cars and trucks. Grills and unlimited size coolers will be available in the tailgating area. Rice said the tailgating area will open when registration opens for competitors on race days.

Tailgating passes good for the entire season and include one race ticket are priced at $375, while season-long passes with two race tickets are priced at $550. If groups of more than two persons are parked in the tailgating area, additional general admission tickets can be purchased for $10 for the normal NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series events.

Weekly tailgating spaces are available at a price of $20, plus the $10 general admission fee. For special events, the weekly tailgating fee will be $30, plus the ticket price per person.

The 2005 racing season at South Boston Speedway, which consists of 25 events, will get underway on Saturday, March 12.
